The Role of Coaching in Leadership Development

Leaders guide, inspire, and influence the team towards a shared vision – something that is truly challenging. Today’s dynamic and volatile world has many economic and political changes, technological developments, and also mounting expectations. Leaders are constantly under a lot of pressure. It is not the knowledge that the conventional training programs can provide that today’s leaders are looking for. They do have sufficient knowledge with them, however, what is required is some help in the practical application of competencies in solving realistic business or personal problems that they face. Solutions are unique to each leader and hence an individual-focused approach becomes even more essential. This is where the relevance of individual coaching comes in and it has now risen as a vital tool in developing and engaging the relevant leadership competencies effectively.

Unlocking Employee Potential: The Underestimated Impact of Effective Onboarding

The road to finding the right executive for your company can be a long and winding one. But the real challenge begins once the ink dries on the contract and they start working. Too often, businesses fail to provide adequate support and guidance to new executives during the induction process. This can lead to misunderstandings, cultural clashes, and unrealistic expectations that quickly become unmanageable. Shockingly, studies show that nearly half of all executives leave their new positions within 18 months!

Your Employees Love Surprises - Unconventional Ones!
Do the unexpected compliments surprise and motivate people more than those which are obvious?
Yes.

Research has proven that surprises and unexpected events boost emotions by 400%, whether positive or negative. Organizations continuously innovate and recreate, rewards and recognitions programs to motivate their employees. The balance of obvious or conventional programs with elements of surprise will increase the motivation levels of employees. After all, productivity of employees depends on employee motivation; so unexpected boosters will help accelerate their motivation levels.

Beyond Challenges: A New Paradigm for Rural Primary Education in India
“It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education” – Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was right – it is definitely within our power to make this happen. In India, one thing that has been a concern over time is rural primary education. In order to gain basic skills, millions of children face significant trials. According to The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2022, though 70% of children aged 6-14 are now enrolled in government schools, many of these children face irregular access to essential resources. Besides, in spite of 63.7% of households with school-going children owning smartphones, only 27% of these children have regular access to them for education.

The best of the best leaders are not those who just lead with their brains; they lead with their entire hearts and souls too.

The above line captures the spirit of a leadership style that resounds deeply, not only with an individual’s brain but also their emotions and purpose in a beautiful manner. Think of a leader who successfully balances empathy in a clear manner, and also intuition with a strategic vision. This is the real power of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Spiritual Intelligence (SI) combined.

We presently live in 2024 – a very complex and dynamic business environment for sure. Effective leaders will definitely tell you that in order to succeed as a leader, technical skillsets alone will not suffice. In the 30+ years I have been in HR and Coaching, I have witnessed firsthand how leaders with high emotional intelligence (EQ) are transforming businesses. Of the 200+ leaders I coached over the last few years, over 75% of them selected emotional intelligence a theme for their development.  Daniel Goleman says that 58% of performance in all types of jobs is accounted for by EQ. That’s not all, according to 74% of business leaders, EQ will be more important than IQ in the next five years.
